2266 – Andor Class Pathfinders

The five Andor Class Pathfinders entered service in 2266, and were intended to demonstrate the viability of a modern photon torpedo armed missile cruiser following concerns about the performance of earlier missile armed ships.

All five ships were built at the Andor shipyards and commissioned into Military Operations Command, and were the subject of intense scrutiny prior to the production order being placed for the linear warp drive equipped Andor class.

The five pathfinders were used as training ships to support the build up of the Andor class following the end of their short active service careers, all five ships were sold on, three joining the Andorian Planetary Guard, and the other two to the AOFW.

  • Andor’s Bravery Commissioned 2267, Training Ship 2274, Sold to AOFW 2284

2257 – Bakker

The Bakker Class Command Cruiser entered service the year after the Four Years War. Originally planned as a class of twelve ships, only six were commissioned.

As with many ships of her era she is a rearrangement of the highly successful Constitution Class design, the secondary hull being the same as the conventional design although with a shorter neck. The low mounted warp nacelles allowed the addition of a tertiary hull in the Dorsal position atop the secondary hull. This tertiary hull housed a full fleet command suite, with separate computer and life support systems. It was capable of being swapped for a multi mission pod, but the the only other pod procured was a transport one, proposed carrier and weapon pods were not forthcoming.

In service the Bakker concept worked well to a degree, but the large tertiary hull limited speed and reduced efficiency compared to more conventional Cruisers.

The USS Bakker (NCC 1996) was lost in 2270. She was stolen by a crew of Klingon renegades aided by the commanding officer of Starbase 6 (Commander Baines) while docked for refit.

Commander Spock of the Enterprise established that the Klingons were not acting on behalf of the empire, and contacted the Klingon Commander Kor to warn him that the ship was entering Klingon space. A battle group led by Kor destroyed the Bakker, however the incursion and destruction of the ship did not impact negatively on Klingon-Federation relations due to the nature of the incident – indeed it did lead to a greater level of understanding.

2251 – Palomar

In 2250 the de-commisioned Caracal Class Command Cruisers USS Palomar (NCC-760), USS. Long Beach (NCC-761), USS Tayi (NCC-762), USS Dominium (NCC-763), and USS R’Sah-Dan (NCC-764)  vessels were taken out of reserve to make up for a short term shortfall in heavy Cruiser numbers. The ships were initially only minimally refitted. The ships were removed from service in 2251 when more modern ships became available, but the build up of hostilities leading to the advent of the Four Years War (in 2252) saw these ships modified instead of being scrapped as planned.

This second modification saw the ships refitted with modern warp drives and weapons  to act as Command Ships for Destroyer groups and Convoys, and they recomissioned in this form from 2251 onwards

2253 – Shanks

The Shanks class light cruiser was an emergency design created during the four years war, the design was the simplest possible using a Class I primary hull coupled to a pair of warp nacelles.

Despite it’s rushed beginnings, the class was very successful and many of the ships were later refitted with Linear warp drives and served into the 24th Century.

2239 – Capella Class (Configuration II)

The Capella class was designed as, and served well in, the general purpose light cruiser role. Uniquely the design was created with alternate positions for the warp nacelles, they could be mounted atop or beneath the primary hull depending on mission requirements, the unused attachment points being available for use as hard points for the mating of mission modules, cargo pods, weapons or sensors.
