With the outbreak of the Romulan War the Earth Starfleet was in desperate need of ships to supplement the fleet, and the shipyards of Alpha Centauri offered the cheap mass produced Zoenamy as a solution. The design had been developed to meet Alpha Centauri Space Navy requirements for a patrol vessel, and the long range of the design due to it’s efficient propulsion system meant that the design was well suited for adoption by the Earth Starfleet as an escort Corvette. The design was notable as being the first ‘alien’ design adopted by the Earth Starfleet in large numbers to act as an armed picket patrol vessel, some forty of the 119 ships built in total saw service in Earth Starfleet.

The Alpha Centauri Zoenamy class was the basis of the later of the highly successful Djartanna Class Destroyer.
